On our way to GovDocs, IBK and I stopped by to say hi to Leslie, and she gave us a whole bunch of info about being a librarian. I never knew that there was so many different things that you can do with a librarians education. She told us about her friend that works for PIXAR and about how there are librarians that work for sports teams. Man that stuff was pretty cool. A librarian is more than a person there to tell you were to find stuff in the library.

Hi Joel,
Yes, there is really no limit to what you can do with a library science degree.
I did not really understand what librarians "do" until I started law school.
Even after spending 3 years doing legal research and working with law and government documents librarians, it was not until I entered the MLIS program at the University of Washington's i-School (check it out at http://www.ischool.washington.edu/ if you're thinking about getting a Masters in Library Science or Information Management) that I really understood how broad the field of librarianship actually is.
At U.W., I was taking classes with people who had degrees in finance, architecture, hard and soft sciences, and humanities, as well as military backgrounds.
Some of these people wanted to change careers, others wanted to get a library science degree so that they could do specialized work within their chosen field.
No matter what field you're in, there is always a need for librarians, archivists, and other information professionals.
